Going Au Naturale
Hey Meanies,
I have been thinking about going au naturale for 2 weeks now. I have come to the decision that I will be getting the Big Cut. My last full perm was May 24, 2010, and my hairline touch up was June 13, 2010. If you could feel my roots right now, you can scour last nights pots and pans. Strangely I have always wanted to cut my hair extremely short like the BC but changed my mind because I saw another hairstyle which would be long. I have chopped off my hair at least once a year because shorter hair for me is easier to maintain. I feel more relaxed and less worried. Also I don't have to freak out and try to figure out what to do with the birds nest on my head. I do wear wigs but sometimes I don't want to because it's too much damn hair..lol. For the last 12 years I have been perming, weaving, braiding, dying, bleaching, and highlighting my hair. Anytime I wanted a hairstyle please believe I was going to get it. I even tried my best to go to professionals every two weeks but my hair just wasn't a willing participant.
At the moment, my hair is at it's worse condition I have ever seen. I can't even save my hair right now no matter how hard I try. My hair is falling out everywhere I'm surprised I don't have a bald spot. Last year I had to cut off my hair into a Rihanna style because one side of my hair in the back was falling out faster than I can keep up. I loved the style, it was easy for me to maintain. Summer was approaching so it was definitely great to have that look. But it was so damn hot that as soon as I permed my hair and went outside into the heat it was over. I would sweat for 5 mins and my roots would be curly. That is actually a common problem I had growing up when I permed my hair. When it came time to perm my hair I would be happy because my hair was going to be bone straight. Truthfully in the next two weeks my hair would be kinky like no other. That cream crack couldn't even help my hair no matter what. I have coarse and thick hair. You could use super perm and my hair wouldn't be phased by it. The only thing that would happen would obviously be breakage.
I haven't quite figured out what day I will get my big chop but I'm sure I will love it. Some ppl that want to go au naturale are scared of what others might say. Ever since I been getting my hair done I honestly never cared if anyone didn't like it because I was the one that had to deal with it. I say go for it ! It might be the best or worse decision you ever make. But remember hair grows back. Your hair does not make you who you are.
During this process I'm going to try to track my progress showing before and after pictures, maybe even record new things I have learned along the way etc. I think this would be great because I HATE MY HAIR lol I really do. It's time to put love and care back into my hair.
